Can I use the Spatial Audio on the AirPods Max with home cinema system?

I have a home cinema system, use Blu-ray, 4k discs and a media player through a 7.2.2 amplifier. Can I use the Spatial Audio on the AirPods Max with this system?

  • If you connect the AirPods Max directly to your AV receiver (even with a cable via Lightning-to-3.5mm), you’d only get stereo, no Spatial Audio.
  • If you pair them via Bluetooth to the receiver, you’d also just get a compressed stereo signal — Spatial Audio won’t activate because the data path bypasses Apple’s processing.

Try this but this is not working with your Blu ray player

  • Connect the Apple TV 4K to your AV receiver.
  • Pair your AirPods Max directly to the Apple TV.
  • When you play a , stream, or Atmos content through Apple TV apps (Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, Plex, etc.), Spatial Audio works.
  • Mac or iPad: If you play your movie files on a Mac/iPad and use AirPods Max, Spatial Audio will also work.

Thanks mate, I guessed they wouldn't but wasn't sure.

Problem is I have a home cinema, which is great, 7.2.2, but sometimes with families I need headphones, which are stereo.

so, I can add a Sonos arc ultra, for €1k that will never be used just so I can buy the Sonos spacial headphones for €600, the arc is a total waste of money.

so I was hoping someone would be clever enough to allow such headphones to be connected to a home cinema amp, by dongle or device or something.

apples great, but I've over 2000 films on bluray and 4k, all superior to any streaming platform, and really, streaming is a waste of money I think.

was hoping there was a way, a well.

thanks again mate, maybe they'll read this an see it's a viable addition 😆
