The date in when checking the serial number does not coincide with the purchase of the iPhone

Hi, I have an issue with my iPhone 15, which I bought in August 2025. In the settings and on the Apple website, the production date is shown as July 31, 2026. Can you explain why this is ? The store said that the phone was new, but it was just unpacked in order to put it on the window. the phone should be new, because in the model number the first letter is M. What should I do?

iPhone 15, iOS 18

Interesting. Wondering how it is possible to buy a phone a year before it was manufactured. Did you buy from an authorized Apple dealer......or a store that was simply selling iPhones?

If you did, you will be able to find their name when you search for authorized dealers in your area using this link:

Find Locations

If you tap Settings > General > Warranty........what information is displayed there?

If the dealer is not authorized......you don't know what you are getting. The phone was certainly not new.

An "M" at the beginning of the model number does not mean that the phone is new. It means that it has not been refurbished. The phone could have had previous owner(s).

Did you check the warranty status?

Even if you bought a new phone from the Apple Store, you only have 14 days to return the phone for a refund. A store is not going to refund your money for a phone that is a year old.

There is nothing to see here. They bought a new iphone and they have 12 months warranty. The whole thing is a misunderstanding!
