Inconsistent back gesture on iPhone compared to Android's universal back button

I have been using Apple device for quite sometime now and to give the context I have been using an android device before the thing that I noticed is android having a universal back button or a home button that works university across various apps. But in the iPhone, the back gesture is different for almost every other app, you have to swipe your finger all across the edge of the screen, which is a stretch and it can be easily sounds by giving us option to use the button based navigation system. Just like the Samsung does and I cannot efficiently use other app smoothly because the left typing gesture does different things in different apps but in android, it is a Much smoother experience am I alone in facing this problem ?
