Best external DVD burner for an 2019 iMac - need other DVD players to be able to play those discs

I have files of a filmed play that I want to burn onto a disc (or discs), so that I can take it on vacation, and share with my mom on her dvd player. I had bought a more affordable burner (Origbelie) that I have burned a couple of discs of photos, successfully. I twice, burned a portion of the play onto one disc, but on playback, found that portions of it came out herky-jerky, so, no good. On putting it into my regular dvd player, it seemed to register the content as only data, rather than a movie file. There is no way to set the region code for the unit, let alone, do anything else with it. I guess it's not truly compatible with an iMac, as there's not much to indicate a connection between burner and computer, in order to direct the burner to do anything specific.

That said, does anyone know of a burner compatible with a 2019 Mac, that will burn dual layer DVD-R blanks, (if they exist, & not BluRays), that will play on a dvd player hooked up to a tv?
