Recycling an 8-year-old iPod at Apple

cleaning house and found my daughters old iPod . It’s about 8 years old. She doesn’t want it. Can it be taken to Apple to be cleaned (back to factory) and recycled?

Can a found iPod be unlocked without the original owner's info? I found an IPOD at the recycling center in mint condition. It is locked as I am not the original owner. I have used Itunes to reset it but the reset does not stop the device from going to Apple and asking for the original owner's info. Apple will recycle it, yes. You should factory reset the device.
