Google and predictive text not working

iPhone 12 iOS 18.6.2

So if you (using iPhone default keyboard) Google a question no predictive text field shows. Switching off/on predictive text in Settings doesn't help. I've had the phone since Christmas so it's not something that started with the latest iOS version or anything. All Google settings for predictive text are on (so far as I can tell) and it works fine on a Samsung so the issue with iOS might mean it's just one of those things one has to live with.

It will be posted to Feedback but, meanwhile, would a forced restart help or is there something I'm missing?

This is really irksome so all ideas welcome.
