I installed the new update on my iPhone and now I am unable to get on to certain websites, have checked my iPad which I have not updated and I can get on to them on that

Access to Adult sites is controlled in settings, Screen Time, App store media web & games, Web Content.
After every update you should always Force restart iphone, select your iOS version here Force restart iPhone – Apple Support

What "new update" are you referring to?
