Requesting a refund for an unintended subscription charge from Apple

Hey, I wanted to ask for your opinion about something with Apple.

So, I was charged €48 for an app today (September 13, 2025), even though I had canceled the subscription on the day my trial period ended. At that time, there weren’t enough funds on my card till today because i use that card for only online purchases and also I didn’t plan to continue the subscription.

On top of that, because of a billing issue, I wasn’t able to download free applications on my phone. Today I was charged for 48€

I’ve tried to get a refund, but on Apple Support I don’t see an option to request a refund for this app. Do you think it’s possible to get my money back, and if so, how would you recommend I proceed?

If you cancelled the day your trial ended, you were too late to avoid a charge. When you chose the free trial, there is a message on the screen to cancel the trial a day before the subscription start date to avoid charges. The charge is now pending and you cannot request a refund on a pending charge or remove a pending charge. It will need to be paid before you have the option to request a refund.

Since that charge has not been able to be processed, the payment method is no longer considered valid and you will not be able to use the App Store at all until that has been resolved.

Apple's policy is all purchases are final, but they may make a discretionary refund. We don't work for Apple and can't tell you if you will get one. We see many people post here that Apple has said no to them, particularly if they get into the habit of asking for them. Maybe if this is your first time you might stand a better chance, but again we don't know how Apple decides.

To proceed, pay what you owe, then ask for a refund. Here's how to request an app or media refund from Apple (From: Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support - see the article for more detail.) If you bought this in the EU from a third party, see: About purchases not billed through the App Store or the App Store’s In-App Purchase system - Apple Support instead.

1. Sign in to https://reportaproblem.apple.com

2. Tap or click "I'd like to," then choose "Request a refund."

3. Choose the reason why you want a refund, then choose Next.

4. Choose the app, subscription, or other item, then choose Submit.

Read this support article for information about how long it takes to receive a refund (if you are granted one), and how to check the status of a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple --> Check the status of a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support
