Missing 3 dots for classic split screen in iPadOS 26

How do I use classic split screen? I no longer see the 3 dots, and the 2 multitask modes do not work in that way, nor have easy access.

iPadOS multitasking has received a significant makeover from that to which you may be accustomed in iPadOS 18.x and earlier - and may take a little time to learn and adjust your workflows. You would be well advised to review the official iPadOS User Guide and the many available online tutorials (such as YouTube) to become better acquainted with the new multitasking interface and associated gestures and controls.

If you have a repeatable issue that you cannot resolve, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

Split Screen IS possible, but it’s slightly more difficult than before. First, swipe down from top of screen to show the menu bar. Tap the 3 dots (Red, Yellow, Green like on Mac) to expand them. Tap and hold green dot. It will show various windowing layouts, choose the one with two windows side by side, or another one if you want to. I’ve found that going home preserves layout, just go back into the apps and they will preserve layout
