"iPhone Mirroring Timed Out Connecting" after IOS26 update

I updated my iPhone 16 Pro Max to IOS 26.0 and mirroring stopped working on my MacBook M1. I figured that maybe there was an issue in not having upgraded to Tahoe yet, so I did the install. No joy. It still does not connect, but I know they are talking because I get a notification on my phone that it had connected to my MacBook.

I've restarted both devices, checked that the Bluetooth is on and both are on the same Wi-Fi network. I went to System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff and make sure AirPlay Receiver is turned on.

Still get the "iPhone Mirroring timed out connecting."

It's a feature I use every day, in fact, it's one of the reasons I upgraded to the iPhone 16 from an older model that didn't have the capability.

Any ideas?

I also facing this issue after update Mac OS to Tahoe and iPhone with the latest version 26. hope they fix it in the next update with the version 26.0.1 and Mac OS.

Confirming reboot works, I guess we all so used to never rebooting the device.

Rebooting resolves the issue temporarily. The next time you connect, the same problem will occur.

same, but once I updated my phone to iOS 26 it stopped working

I'm having this same issue.

iOS updated to 26.0.1

Tahoe updated to 26.0.1

Still doesn't work...

Sounds like Apple are actively working on it, so following this thread with intrigue.

do you mean you logout from ipad (IOS) or logout from Mac Mini to get it work?

The best part? They’re absolute pros at drawing that ‘connection failed’ screen. That’s literally the only thing they nailed.

I forgot I'd posted about this! Just upgraded my Mac to Tahoe 26.1, and still have the same problems. I guess it's probably an iOS 26 issue?

It's very laggy when using the Mirror function over Wi-Fi on the iPhone, but it works fine when the phone is using 5G. In iOS 18 there is no such problem.

I phoned Apple Support twice today. The first person I spoke to said she was unaware of this issue. She made me jump through hoops, including wasting an hour reinstalling 26.0. The second person checked and found that as of today this is a known issue that Apple is working. Many people have reported this problem. We will likely have to wait for 26.1 for a fix.

Update: a reboot of the phone seemed to solve it for me.
