Slow performance and lag after iOS 26 update on iPhone

After updating my device to iOS 26, I have been experiencing significant lag across apps and system settings. The performance has dropped noticeably, making the device feel slow and unresponsive. This is affecting the overall user experience, and I would appreciate guidance on whether this is a known issue or if there are recommended steps to resolve it

This is pretty normal after updating to iOS 26, especially in the first couple of days. Your iPhone is doing a lot in the background, like reindexing photos, optimizing apps, and rebuilding system data, which can make everything feel slow and laggy.

If your phone isn’t a newer model, you’ll notice it more since the new system is heavier. Some apps might also not be fully optimized yet...

Give it 1–3 days, keep it plugged in on WiFi overnight, and restart it once. That usually smooths things out.

If it’s still lagging badly after that, then it’s not just the update, and you might need to reset settings or reinstall the system.

It's horrible. I mean I just bought an iPhone 17 pro and I have never experienced performance this bad on a brand new late model iPhone due to an update. I tested the 15 pro and 17 pro side by side with apple intelligence on and they seemed the same, maybe less heat generation on the 17 pro was noticeable. design choice for IOS 26 is even worse, it gives me a migraine. turning off Apple intelligence seems to help right now but I really hope these issues are addressed as in my perspective, they are causing a really bad user experience.

Hi, the user interface issues can be caused by the user increasing sizes in different app settings including Safari, Accessibility and Settings. Some Safari extensions can modify website behavior and display on a global basis or for just a specific website. Third party apps might not have been optimized by their developers yet and can manifest as UI issues. I’m not saying it’s not Apple’s issue, but without confirming settings and performing necessary resets, no, the issues cannot resolve themselves.

tapherj ~ What model of iPhone is it?...

And what version of iOS is it running?...

anneli291 ~ Did you buy it new or used? ...If the latter, check its 'Parts & Service History.' by going to:

Settings > General > About

...Do you see a 'Parts & Service' section there?

If so, tap it and in the resulting pane, does it say anything about the battery and it being 'Genuine' or 'Unknown'?

updated last Friday, the battery life is improving slightly, but the lag is unbearable, when you open an app or swipe up to go to home screen, it takes almost a second for the action to perform. Also the phone is overheating from normal use. It seems by the comments that its a common issue for all models bellow 15 ... I turned down transparency and turned off background refresh and it helped a little with the battery life, but THE LAG is the big problems here. I have never seen anything like that on a iPhone and i use it since model 6.

86% battery health…

the new ios26 update is killing me.

texting: glitches, laggy.

safari: does it work today? No, not without freeze, laggy and delays in response. Several seconds!!

camera from locked screen: ive conplained so much. First open, black screen. And I see the green light go on. Nothing. SO!! I have to lock the screen again. Click to ”wake upp” and press the camera button again and now I can take a picture. This has been since the launch of ios26.

do you have devs working? That know how to troubleshoot? Because it doesn’t seen like you do.
