battery draining after iOS 26 update on iphone 15

I see a major impact on battery after upgrading iphone 15 to iOS 26. I am reporting this after 24 hours have passed. Phone was recharged after the update as well.

Actually it is not nonsense as you must give it 3-5 days to index the files and you are supposed to be experiencing battery drain, lag, and the device feeling warmer than normal during this time. That has been documented.

So now if you are still experiencing trouble at 9 days, then there are 4 additional steps you can take:

1- Post the Battery Health percentage along with the screenshot of Settings > Battery that shows the green battery graph with the previous 24 hour option selected along with the top apps consuming the battery.

2- Perform a Force Restart:

  • Press and quickly release Volume up
  • Press and quickly release Volume down
  • Press and HOLD side button until the Apple logo appears. This could take up to 15 seconds before you see the Apple logo and you have to ignore anything else on the screen. If you do not see it, then try again as it may take a couple of attempts to get the speed and sequence of the key presses correct.

3- Compare your results after a Factory Reset and not restoring from a backup to test.

4- Wait for iOS 26.0.1 that is currently in beta. We cannot comment on the issues resolved in this beta and the release date has not been announced. Could be today or in a week, nobody knows.

Have to be honest this is all nonsense. I updated 9 days ago now. I keep my phone on the charger at home with WiFi all the time and I’ve done everything all these videos have said about saving battery. Nothing has worked and nothing has gotten better. My battery drain is ridiculous. I have an iPhone 15 pro max that is about 15 months old I haven’t even finished paying it off yet. So the whole give it 3 days to a week to index is not true.

what’s the deal. When is Apple fixing this battery drain bug?

Hi Jim.

first off thank you so much for the reply. And lengthy I really appreciate it

however to say it’s not nonsense when it’s LITERALLY happening to my phone I don’t know what to say.

as far as comparing daily useage with the battery is irrelevant. If it’s all equal since the update but it’s plummeting way faster than it did on iOS 18, then it doesn’t matter because it’s horrible now

i did the hard reset it seems to have helped just minimally. Not great but a TINY bit

lets just all keep our fingers crossed for 26.0.1 to come out ASAP to fix this glitch which I hope it does

It if my photos live in the cloud, why is it indexing the files on my phone?

They certainly do not live in the cloud when using iCloud Photos, they are just being synced. You still have a copy of those photos on your device and when using Optimized storage, your device can keep a lower resolution of those photos to save space when needed. If you delete any photo on your device, it will be removed from iCloud. The same is true if you delete a photo from iCloud, it will be removed from your device.

With the object detection being done on those photos, you can ask Siri to show you the pictures of trees, for example, and since they have been indexed, you will see those photos.

Hard resetting (whatever that is) may remove indexing and extend the problem time scale.

This was all covered in my first response to you with a link with things to try.

I am reverting back to IOS 18.

This was possible during the beta test period, but if you have installed the official release version of iOS 18, you can't go back to iOS 18 using any method that Apple supports.

Even if you could, you would still need to have made a special "Archive" backup on a Mac or PC while the phone was still running iOS 18......before....you switched to iOS 26.

Don't be fooled by any nonsense about IPSW files that you might see on the Internet.
