Facing error when updating child's DOB on Apple Account

My husband set up Apple ID’s for my sons a few years ago so they could save their game progress on our iPads by signing into their own accounts. Fast forward a few years and they have just got mobile phones so are now using the same Apple accounts to log in (linked to their Gmail accounts which I set up when they were born). Turns out my husband used any old date for a birthday when setting up their Apple accounts all those years ago so they are now 10 and 15 in their respective profiles which means they have completely different content restrictions, neither of which are correct for them as they are actually 13! I have tried changing from within each of their accounts which triggers an email to myself containing a link to log into my own Apple account and verify the change of date. Except every time I try to authorise it, it says there is a server error. I have tried from my iPhone, iPad, Mac and PC to no avail! Any suggestions as to where I’m going wrong please?

To change an account birthdate from 10 year old to 13

and

To change an account birthdate from 15 year old to 13

Please first check below for whether your two 13 year olds are under or over the minimum age for a teenage/adult account in your country or region.

________________________________________________

The age for a child account varies by country and region:

See: Age varies by country or region

Eg: says:

"About settings and features for kids under 13

Some Apple Account settings and features work differently for children under 13.

For example, a child under 13 can’t create an Apple Account without permission and consent from a parent or guardian. Find out about updating the birthday of a child account.

The minimum age for account creation may vary across countries and regions:

  • Under 14 in Austria, Bulgaria, China mainland, Cyprus, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, South Korea and Spain.
  • Under 15 in Czechia, France, Greece, Peru and Slovenia.
  • Under 16 in Brazil, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Singapore and Slovakia.
  • Under 13 in all other countries and regions."

You should then be able to follow the correct guidance in Apple support's articles, knowing whether they are now to have teenage/adult accounts or child Accounts.

For teenage/adult (13 or older in many countries) or scroll down to child account if needed.

See how to Update the birthday associated with an Apple Account - Apple Support

or

If you need to change from a 15 year old's teenage/adult account to a thirteen year old's child account.

What to do: If you change an Apple Account to a child account - Apple Support

If your two sons qualify for teenage/adult accounts at 13years old in your country,:

They may be able to correct their birthdates themselves ?

Hoping this is clear to you, and helps.

All the best :-)
