I have the same problem on iOS26.2. None of the suggestions here worked for me. Toggling the settings in Search, toggling the beta on off. Or reset.

Fixed! Spotlight Search

After days of frustration (tried restarts, toggling settings, language change, even full erase & restore – nothing worked), I finally fixed the Spotlight bug where it only finds apps but nothing else (no deep settings, contacts, messages, photos, etc.).

The combo that actually worked:

1.  Changed iPhone Language to English (US) (Settings > General > Language & Region > iPhone Language).

2.  Went to Settings > Siri & Search.

3.  Turned OFF every single option at the top (Suggest Apps Before Searching, Allow Notifications, Show in App Library, Show When Sharing, Show Listening Suggestions).

4.  Then, for every individual app in the list below, turned OFF all options (Show App in Search, Show Content in Search, etc.).

5.  Restarted the phone.

6.  Spotlight immediately started showing deep results again (settings shortcuts, etc.).

7.  Turned all the individual app search options back ON (while still on US English).

8.  Restarted again and left it on Wi-Fi for a bit – everything still working perfectly.

9.  Finally switched language back to English (UK) – restarted – and it’s still 100% fixed.

This seems to fully force-rebuild the corrupted content index that gets stuck on some devices.

Hello there!

I having the same problem since I upgraded my phone to iP17PM. Search in Settings (and other places dosen't work) like a normal search in Settings like I open Settings and then search for Safari shows no results. Is this some kind of superbug or not? I played with some settings in search settings, restart the phone etc. but nothing works. On my wife's iPad search work like magic..

Dude - get a job at APPLE apparently you’re smarter than most of their support.

I’ve always been a big fan of apple but when they fail - they fail hard. IOS 26 has been horrible for me.

BUT thankfully the Apple community has people like andylew0 who care and do help.

quick side note - had just upgraded my wife’s phone to a 17 pro - thought I would get kudos until the search crapped the bed. But thanks to andylew0 I was saved and still got credit.

thanks

Note for others: the "beta updates On, then off" method might not work. It did nothing for me.

That's what scares me about spending hours with the fixes that will involve hours of work: you might do them and then discover the problem is still there, and possibly you've introduced some other new problem(s).

This is really infuriating.

I have problem this after buying a brand-new iPhone and transferring from my old iPhone. The process took a while, and a bunch of things did not come over, or I had to log back in. Some apps: no problem, still logged in. Others: "Here's a bunch of hoops to jump through! Welcome to spending a lot of quality time doing busywork on your new iPhone!"

For *every individual app". Seriously? That cannot be the only solution. Alone scrolling down makes me want to through up at the mere thought about it.

It baffles me how anyone at Apple didn't think of adding one global toggle for all the apps?

On the other side, …

You're trying to search in settings, right?

There a toggle for the settings app. Shoudn't toggling off and one this one do the job already?

At least for me search inside apps still worked.

And search on the home screen was not an issue.

Anyway, I'm on a fairly fresh setup 15 Pro running iOS 26.4.1 and had the same issue.

Indexing took a minute but now search mail works as expected. The iPhone got fairly hot but that could also be caused by switching on "Apple Intelligence" (I had different flavors of English set for Siri and Apple Intelligence which prevented activation).

I jumped through a bunch of these hoops, except the ones that required a massive amount of time, and none of those I tried worked.

Instead, when I did one of the system updates, it just started working. It seems to me that there is enough of a mix of "X worked for me" and "that same X did not work for me" that we are possibly just seeing random effects of restarts, and that there is no one solution to this bug.
