How can I fix Wi-Fi and CarPlay issues on iPhone 17 Pro Max?

Hi All, starting this thread as I purchased an iPhone 17 Pro Max today. Obviously it’s launch day so there’s not too much information on bugs as iOS 26 has recently come out in conjunction with the release of this phone. However, I’ve noticed some issues with my new phone and was wanting to see whether this is a ‘just me’ issue or it seems to be impacting other users.

Ive noticed that my wifi consistently was dropping in and out on setup and that my wireless apple carplay seems to disconnect intermittently.

I have tried a network settings reset with no resolution (twice) but would be really frustrated to have to reset my phone completely after transferring all my data across to my new phone.

I may end up returning this device and getting another one if any further issues persist whilst the return window is still an option.

People on the MacRumors forum are experiencing the same issues, and most of them are blaming the new WiFi chip. Apple really let us down this time. If they are working on a solution, why not come out and say it? There’s an article coming out in our local town newspaper warning people to hold off on upgrading to the new iPhone 17. Maybe this will catch momentum with it being discussed on X and other platforms. Perhaps Apple will take notice and create a sense of urgency.

Hi, I just received my new iPhone 17 ProMax, and I have these Apple CarPlay disconnections, even if I tried with different cables, I can`t have a stable connection. Before i had 14 ProMax with a lightning port, having no issue, and now with this type C is a nightmare. If this issue isn`t fixed soon, I will return the phone because it is not acceptable; we pay for some devices to be functional.

Hope this helps someone including Apple:

iPhone 17 Pro - Wired CarPlay kept dropping constantly, every few minutes, from day one. Upgrading to iOS 26.1 did not solve the issue. Used multiple different USB A to USB C cables from good manufacturers like Anker with no help to fix the problem. Never had any issues with my previous iPhone 13.

From reading an online comment I purchased a Beats (owned by Apple) USB A to USB C cable as a last resort. My phone now works perfectly in wired CarPlay, been 6 hours plus and not one disconnect.

It’s a wireless JoyeAuto for Porsche for the CDR radio (I don’t have a PCM so my options are limited) - but the wifi adapter is the same on almost all of their after market systems.

The update is dated November so it’s definitely more recent than yours. Don’t be distracted by their awful version numbering either. It may look like the same version but it isn’t. It’ll have November somewhere in the wireless firmware version.

EDIT: my iphone is a 17 Pro running 26.1

CarPlay has worked reliably in our two cars since iOS 26 was first released
I guess users complaints are focused on iPhone 17 series, especially iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, not iOS 26. I myself, I have no issues with iOS 26 on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Besides, for those insisting it has to be fixed by the car manufacturer: who will pay for me the costs for the firmware update and for the precious time I am losing in the process?

Sorry, but not buying a device with more than a grand to be informed afterwards that "I must ask for a car infotainment software repair" for a modern infotainment software that is already working perfectly fine with every other older iPhone models and ALL Android phones, and not paying extra penny for that!

And not only that, Apple did not mention anywhere that their new models and chips may have CarPlay compatibility issues with multiple car brands and models!

I should have mentioned, we have iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. And I have many other friends with iPhone 17 Pro models. None of us are having CarPlay issues at all. Again, this is a complex issue.

I'd say that Apple not only will let us down, but also gets frustraded when we share our bad experience with the community.

Does it sound like Apple?! ABSOLUTELY!
