When I am about to log into my iPhone I can sometimes just use Face ID but other times at random it will require me to put in my passcode after I have used Face ID? This has happened after I updated to IOS 26. Is this an issue with anyone else? It is so annoying and I don't know how to change it

You have to enter your Passcode after you update your phone. You have enter your passcode after you power off, then power on your phone. This is exactly how it was designed to work. Face ID is not, nor has it ever been a replacement for your Passcode. It is a convenience, but there will be times when entering your passcode is absolutely required. Again, this is normal and expected behanvior.

Now I'm confused. Your original post never said you are having to put in your passcode every time you close your phone. There has never been a requirement to enter ones passcode to close an iPhone. Please clarify.
