iPhone 17 pro max display darker than 15 pro max

My new iPhone 17pm display is darker than my old 15pm when set to the same brightness. I'm talking about hey siri set brightness 20% and confirmed control is in same place on both phones. 17 is darker.

All the usual suspects like reduce white point, low power and auto brightness are off.

When I use auto brightness the phones now look the same brightness but the slider is set a lot higher on the 17.

Putting on a hdr video and maxing out the brightness the 17 looks a little less bright than the 15 but not as marked a difference as before. On a non hdr picture of a test card with maxed brightness the white on the 17 is obviously less white than the 15.

I have 17 pro and 14 pro, and I instantly noticed this issue also. The main difference is at lowest brightness points, however I think it might be due to the new iphones having 1nits lowest brightness points. This means sliders aren’t comparable. You have to raise them on 17 more.

The 3000 nits is achieved only with auto brightness in outdoors, whilst the slider max values should be roughly similair aka 1600 vs 2000. At max brightness I do see a slightly brighter screen on my 17 pro.

Not sure why supporters didn’t tell you that, but if you check phone specifications specifically advertised display spec, you will see the new phones mentioned 1nits lowest brightness point, so almost turning off completely. And you can see clearly that outdoor only is when 3000nits activates, that’s also officialy written on spec pages. The normal nits aka indoor are rougly the same. Think maybe not all supporters are aware? After I raised slider a tiny bit the brightness is now comparable, and at max value its brighter then the 14 pro, specially outside.

Same issue here. The screen is so dim to the point that I can’t even see it outside. An no it is not overheated. Even indoors I have to keep the screen on 100 percent brightness to achieve the same brightness as 70 percent on my 16PM. On top of that, there is this very awful blue green tint when viewing the screen slightly off angle which even the demo units at the Apple Store have it.

Same or similar problem here. I always use auto brightness on my iPhones without ever changing brightness manually. Where on my previous iPhones up to the iPhone 15 Pro auto brightness was perfect for me with my new iPhone 17 auto brightness in certain lighting conditions is way dimmer so I have to adjust manually.

Peak brightness in sunlight however is perfect. It’s just in certain conditions indoors when there’s no direct light source shining on the sensor the screen is noticeably dimmer than on the iPhone 15 pro so I have to adjust manually. I bet after a couple days auto brightness will know what my preferences are but it’s just something I noticed.
