iPhone 17 Pro Max Carplay Keeps Disconnecting

I just upgraded from the 15 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max. My 15 rarely had any issues with CarPlay but my 17 I can barely keep CarPlay going for 2min before it disconnects and then refuses to reconnect. I’ve done all troubleshooting steps and nothing works.

Wireless Carplay

Troubleshooting done:

Reboot phone

Removed Car Connection

Factory Reset Infotainment System

Re-paired

Checked for updates

Disabled auto join of other WiFi networks.

It will connect but then shortly after disconnect and refuse to reconnect again.

This needs fixed as I use CarPlay everyday for my job.

Hi Everyone,

I finally got so fed up with the problem being even worse after the latest IOS update, that I started a ticket with chat support. They ran me thru trouble shooting, then told me that they needed a senior tech to look at it. They offered me a phone call. I scheduled the phone call, and the two techs who attempted to call me kept disconnecting and couldn't hear me. After this, I chatted back to support and requested they set me up an in-person appointment in store, and they did.

I went to the Apple Store, they were so kind and understanding, and one of the guys who worked there told me he ad his wife BOTH experienced this and it was a software issue. They recommended a backup, and to do a "reset" through their computer which includes completely removing the OS from the phone and then reinstalling it from their master OS in their computer there. The way I understood what they were doing, is that it were as if I were building a new PC, and installing windows for the first time ever on a blank hard drive.

They told me that the software that I had even though its the same "numbers" probably has some bugs in it, and it is best to just start fresh from scratch.

When they did that, I was skeptical, but it fixed every single problem. And I notice that voice to text works better than it had before, and that everything is generally quick.

So a complete reinstall of the OS at the Apple Store is what I recommend. It's worth the 3 hours I spent at the store, because I spent way more time than that troubleshooting random ****. And a software re-install and repair is indeed different than just factory resetting the phone.

Well I thought I would speak to the manufacturer of the Car Play unit I have in one of my cars a Porsche Cayenne, A very helpful company called Integrated Automotive and they said there seems to be a worldwide issue with the new iPhone 17.

They suggested I follow the following steps:-

1.            Update to the latest ios 26.0.1

2.            Reset network settings on the phone, this fixes the issue in most cases, make sure you perform the following operations:

a.            Delete the iA_xxx bluetooth connection from the iPhone Bluetooth menu.

b.            Go into the IMI-1000 Bluetooth menu and click on the “trash can” to delete all phones.

c.            Turn phone off.

d.            Turn car off.

e.            Turn iphone on and got into setting/general/reset network settings/rest/reset network settings (note that this will wipe all wifi/Bluetooth connections).

f.             Power phone up and re-pair to the imi-1000 bluetooth.

And low and behold today I have done 3 x 30 minute car journeys and the carplay has not played up once!

So fingers crossed this has sorted it!

Nope the issue is not Bluetooth specific - I’m experiencing these same issues on a vehicle with wired CarPlay. Both my wife and I both started having the issue the same day when we upgraded. Tried all the tricks in this thread to try and resolve it, no luck. If we unplug and plug back in, it works again for a couple minutes then disconnects again. CarPlay is unusable and we are just getting a runaround by support.

Brandon2021 - Thanks for the automation, this has improved things as you say.

My saga continues I have had several more interactions with Apple Senior support people, wild goose chases including remove my car magsafe chargers, change a few more settings etc (all made zero difference!).

They have now downloaded the log files from my phone with a detailed schedule of the carplay cutouts on the last couple of journeys I made, this I am told is being sent to the engineering team to see if they can see any issues!

I have a scheduled callback for next Friday to give me an update - fingers crossed!!!

So after jumping through all the hoops - factory reset, network reset, everything reset, blank phone, 26.1, 26.2, what car details, mag safe case, mag safe charger and blah blah blah of hours spent with apple technical, downloading logs and whatever, there is still no fix, albeit I did have an acknowledgement from apple that the iphone 17 pro does have a hardware issue!

They have also said that there probably will be a fix, but are unable to tell me when this might happen??

So where does that leave me, I have had the phone for 7 weeks??

The bottom line is I like the phone, but everytime I get into my car I get a contant reminder that there is a problem and it cuts out the carplay within a minute or sometimes not for 40 minutes sometimes 5 times in a 10 minute journey sometimes less??

How can we take this further, what are our options in the UK particularly??

I would welcome thoughts from others having the same issue.

I mentioned in an earlier post, that I purchased a wireless CarPlay adapter and it solved all my issues with iPhone 17 Pro / CarPlay connectivity.

It's ridiculous that I had to spend money to fix this problem, but whatevs. It was a small investment (less than $50) versus the hours of time I'd already spent trying to solve the issue. Not to mention that nothing I did ever worked.

Why would a WiFi chip cause issues for those of us on wired CarPlay? My wife and I are both having all these exact same issues described by everyone here but are both on wired CarPlay.

Even after 26.2, it’s so bad it’s unusable. We don’t make it more than 5min without it disconnecting or freezing the screen.

If it was a Wifi Chip problem, it would affect everyone using CarPlay wirelessly. But it's not. Since iOS 26 was first rolled out, we've had ZERO issues with CarPlay wirelessly or wired.

I had this problem with new iPhone 17 and tried everything from installing new USB in truck from new truck software updates and more. Last thing I tried was Bluetooth dongle and it works great. Always connects rapidly, stays connected and easy to use. Best money ever spent. And no this is not my product, but thought it might help someone avoid frustration. For anyone with an IMI-1000 this is the software update. I have it installed in a Mini Cooper S.

Please follow these steps

  1. Download this file : https://drive.google.com/file/d/16E7kFk5spG_rXUi6XUcjgHDV9T6D_ZW8/view?usp=drive_link
  2. Extract with winrar to a PC : WinRAR download free and support: WinRAR Download Latest Version
  3. Drag the contents of the extracted folder onto an empty FAT32 formatted USB stick
  4. Start Car
  5. Switch to carplay interface
  6. Insert USB stick
  7. Follow this video : https://youtu.be/O5ADqmo-Mio
  8. Make sure after the update the software version shows IA_xxx not box_xxx
  9. If it shows box_xxx then you need to re-run the update and make sure the stick is pulled out at the right point.
