iPhone 17 Pro Max Carplay Keeps Disconnecting

I just upgraded from the 15 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max. My 15 rarely had any issues with CarPlay but my 17 I can barely keep CarPlay going for 2min before it disconnects and then refuses to reconnect. I’ve done all troubleshooting steps and nothing works.

Wireless Carplay

Troubleshooting done:

Reboot phone

Removed Car Connection

Factory Reset Infotainment System

Re-paired

Checked for updates

Disabled auto join of other WiFi networks.

It will connect but then shortly after disconnect and refuse to reconnect again.

This needs fixed as I use CarPlay everyday for my job.

Hi Everyone,

I finally got so fed up with the problem being even worse after the latest IOS update, that I started a ticket with chat support. They ran me thru trouble shooting, then told me that they needed a senior tech to look at it. They offered me a phone call. I scheduled the phone call, and the two techs who attempted to call me kept disconnecting and couldn't hear me. After this, I chatted back to support and requested they set me up an in-person appointment in store, and they did.

I went to the Apple Store, they were so kind and understanding, and one of the guys who worked there told me he ad his wife BOTH experienced this and it was a software issue. They recommended a backup, and to do a "reset" through their computer which includes completely removing the OS from the phone and then reinstalling it from their master OS in their computer there. The way I understood what they were doing, is that it were as if I were building a new PC, and installing windows for the first time ever on a blank hard drive.

They told me that the software that I had even though its the same "numbers" probably has some bugs in it, and it is best to just start fresh from scratch.

When they did that, I was skeptical, but it fixed every single problem. And I notice that voice to text works better than it had before, and that everything is generally quick.

So a complete reinstall of the OS at the Apple Store is what I recommend. It's worth the 3 hours I spent at the store, because I spent way more time than that troubleshooting random ****. And a software re-install and repair is indeed different than just factory resetting the phone.

I'm having disconnection issues with my iPhone 17 Pro connected via a USB-A to USB-C cable on my Nissan Leaf. The cable is high quality (it came with my Samsung T9 SSD). I've been having the disconnection issues while using Apple Maps and navigating through Boston's maze of tightly packed streets, all populated with those legendary Boston drivers. It is outright dangerous to have your navigation constantly interrupted with no place to pull over every time this happens. It happened to me 4 or 5 times last night.

I was having the same problem. Background: Switched from iPhone 14 Pro to 17 Pro.

CarPlay worked fine in both my car and my wife's car on the old phone. When I got the 17 Pro, I was getting disconnected from CarPlay every few minutes in MY car. No problem in my wife's car. After trying different solutions (update iOS, use cable from wife's car, fiddle with WiFi, delete and re-add my phone, etc.), I ended up getting a data-rated cable (1.5m USB-A to USB-C Insignia from BestBuy). Using that cable SOLVED the problem (or, more accurately, no disconnects in my 20-minute drive home).

This kinda makes since, since I was moving from Lightning to USB-C. I suspect USB-C is less-tolerant of interference. That said, CarPlay works fine in my wife's car using a low-cost Amazon cable is confounding.

My iPhone 17 pro CarPlay is fixed!

I Had a Integrated Automotive CarPlay system installed in a Porsche Cayenne via my local agent in Bristol a few years ago, All has been perfect with my various Apple iPhones (13, 14, 15 etc) until I decided to upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro. Within moments after I got into the car the CarPlay kept cutting out. I tried everything and spent hoursand hours with Apple technical support to no avail. I finally contacted iA and spoke with Scott who couldnt have been more helpful, he said may people and systems had the issue with the new iPhone 17 and they were working on a solution with Apple. Sure enough eventually they created a solution and after downloading it and installing. I am delighted to say everything is now working perfectly! Thank you Scott and the guys at Integrated Automotive for your excellent customer service.

Cheers!

It sounds like Apple are in talks with car manufacturers specifically about this issue.

I'm assuming the iA fixes reported have been in the form of updates for the car and not for the phone, right? Hopefully making carplay work reliably doesn't mean everybody has to get firmware updates for their cars but instead will occur with a future iOS update.

They are a third party unit manufacturer that installs inline with the existing entertainment system for many big brands. They identified the connectivity problem and released software updates to fix the problem. I did mine over Christmas on my Cooper S. The Car Play on my Porsche is OEM and the only fix for me was to install a 3rd party USB adapter as Porsche still do not have a fix for it. It should not really be down to the entertainment system builders to be doing this as its clearly an Apple problem to fix.
