Mic not working when I answer or make calls through my iPhone on my MacBook Air

For over 6 months now I have not been able to make or answer phone calls on my MacBook Air M2 2022. When a call is active, I can hear the caller, but they cannot hear me. I was using Mac OS 15.6.1 until today when I upgraded to Tahoe 26.0.

I have checked all my sound input settings and phone and FaceTime settings and they are all OK. When I'm in Sound input settings and I speak, graphic goes up and down to indicate that the mic is picking up my voice and the mic works when I make recordings or videos, just not on phone calls. If I use my headphones, I can talk and be heard, but not when I'm using the built in mic on the MacBook. I have tried everything I can think of and have tried all the solutions I've found when looking through the Community. Can someone help me please?

Am no expert in this area, yet your post to the community deserves some response.

Seems some small detail may be being overlooked, yet it is not easy to guess just what.

Below are just a few of the tips from each linked article ... if nothing there helps, you may want to try carefully reading right through the linked articles themslves for what may be being overlooked, so you can solve it.

Eg: Ensure the volume is set high enough for your voice to be heard

Check the call is not accidentally "muted"

While on a call in the Phone app on Mac - Apple Support

g: says:

Adjust the audio during a call

To change the volume, press the volume keys on your Mac. Or do any of the following:

  • Mute: Click .
  • Put the call on hold: Click and hold .

You may also want to check the built in speakers:on Mac:

System Settings > Sound > Output .... volume slider ... and make sure "mute" is not ticked.

It may be worth checking everything in Apple Support's linked articles, until you find the cause of the situation:

Eg: says:

Before you begin

Make sure of the following:

_______

More info: Receive phone calls and text messages on your Mac - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Set up your iPhone to allow phone calls on your Mac

  1. On your iPhone, go to the Settings app .
  2. Tap Apps, then tap Phone.
  3. Tap Calls on Other Devices, then turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.
  4. Choose the devices you want to allow to make and receive calls.
  5. The devices you choose can make and receive calls when they’re near your iPhone,

connected to the same Wi-Fi network and signed in to the same Apple Account."

Eg says:

You can click to turn off audio for the call. So check it is turned on when you want to be heard.

All the best :-)
