Disk Utility "Resize Image" ghosted

Just want to resize a disk image Folder. However the Resize Image icon AND the Resize submenu in the Images menu are both ghosted. I am following the Disk Utility Help instructions:

Resizing a disk image
If you can read from and write to a disk image, you can make it larger or smaller when you either need to save disk space or store more information in it.

"To resize a disk image:

Select the disk image if it appears in the list at the left, and then click Resize in the toolbar.

Otherwise, click Resize in the toolbar, and then select a disk image from the dialog that appears.

Select a new size."

andyBall_uk,

Thanks for your continued effort to resolve my DMG Resize problem. I think that I tried the unmounting method per balTwo's advice. However, I tried again because of your success. My result with unmounting the READ/WRITE DMG was the same - ghosted Resize icon and Resize subMenu.

Are you using the same OS version and DU version as I am using?

Thanks baltwo,

The EJECT method works on both new and old folders and a new "blank disk image."
For some reason the Resize Image icon is ghosted; but the Menu -> Resize Images submenu is not.
Also, when I eject the DMG file in the SIDE Panel of a Finder window, the entire Finder window closes.
This only happens when DU is open after a resize operation.
