iPadOS 26 multitasking issues: persistent apps and split-screen refusal

With the recent IpadOS 26 update the multitasking got fully revamped, removing the old option, forcing the use of this new system, and it is extremely hard to use

i have two main issues to address

• when I would swipe out of 2 splitscreened apps onto a new one, one of them would always persist when I open the new app rather than saying in its own area.
• NOW, when I open a different app, if I choose to return to the split screen, it fully refuses to open until I completely exit out of the other app

is there any known fix for this, or a workaround?
