Can't I login using Touch ID after updating to Sequoia 15.7.

Since updating to Sequoia 15.7, my 2018 Intel MacBook Pro is requiring me to input my password instead of using Touch ID. It will randomly allow me to login using Touch ID about 1 out of 20 times. Touch ID still works for passwords, cards, and everything else after I'm logged in. It only balks at the initial login from the Lock Screen. I have restarted, turned Touch ID off and back on, and deleted and re-added my fingerprint. Still no good. Any ideas?

Touch ID started hiding after 15.7 update. Installed 15.7.1 but still fubar. Come on Apple.

Still "fubar"? Not quite ... the Touch ID option is offered (for me at least) after a 5-7 second wait. Most people who have been affected by this seem to see that waiting several seconds results in the Touch ID option being offered, it just isn't offered right away.

Once in a while the Touch ID is NEVER offered which is due to the Mac being shut down or, after a certain amount of time (days), the password has to be entered, by Apple's design. That will not likely change. The 5-7 second time delay is something that I think Apple should fix but maybe won't since it causes no real harm and seems more prevalent on vintage or obsolete Macs.

Here is what I have observed with my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro 16" --

Waking from sleep, the login screen presents only the option to enter a password along with images of each user to select from. I do nothing and after a few seconds the images blink off and on, still only an option to enter password. The images blink again after a few more seconds, then the touch ID option presents and touch ID works to log in.

This behavior started after 15.7 for me. It might be more of a "feature" than a bug, but try waiting several seconds as I describe above.

This is what I tried now and you might want to try it yourself (if you already haven't done so):

Turned the show sleep, shutdown and restart buttons on the lock screen off.

In setting under touch id & password I disable the option to unlock the mac using touch id. (@Rippegari - I know you've done this yourself)

Logged out and back in (without touch id enabled to unlock the mac) and then turned it back on.

For now it seems to work as expected.

Might be a combination of both settings but I really can't say for now. Let's see if it stays that way for a while.

Same thing here with my MacBook Pro 2020 (Intel). I tried removing the sleep, shotdown and restart buttons and the option to use the Touch ID to unlock the mac (as per the instructions of @Stan1973) but did not work for me.

I have also noticed that it lets me use the touch ID if I wait around half a minute in the lockscreen, so it doesn't appear to be completely disabled.

Same issue for me on my 2020 13-inch Macbook pro after upgrading to Sequoia 15.7. Still present after upgrading to 15.7.1. After opening the lid to resume from sleep, I am not presented with the option to login with touch id for a good 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Eventually it always shows up but sometimes it takes quite a while. I've tried restarting, toggling touch ID options, re-enrolling fingerprints, etc. Someone on reddit said to reset the SMC, and I tried some procedure that supposedly did that, but it didn't seem to help.

Can't I login using Touch ID after updating to Sequoia 15.7.
