iPhone 17 battery drains quickly with normal use

📱 @Apple I recently upgraded to the #iPhone17 and the battery drain issue is really disappointing. Even with normal use, the phone loses charge way too fast. For such a premium device, this shouldn’t be happening.




Please address this with a fix/update soon. 🔋⚡

If you’re stating actual performance you have a defective battery. Please contact Apple Support.


You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.

You should be getting more than 7 hours of battery life. Post a screenshot of Settings > Battery that shows your green battery graph with the last 24 hour option including the top 5 apps consuming your battery.


I would assume you are not using a 80% charge limit as that would start your day with the battery already depleted by 20%. If your top app consumers are Social Media, try removing and compare the difference.

You should be charging your phone all night every night and I recommend using the Optimized Charge setting. If you are using a charge limit, you are already starting each day with a partially depleted battery. Your phone under any iOS version is going to drop several percent overnight while idle. What you described is having all day battery life. Don't get caught up comparing Screen on/off time as you can see adding the 2 together never equals 24 hours which are the only 2 states other than when your device is powered off.

Just about everyone with an iPhone (or an Android), except most people who don’t charge overnight can see up to a 25% drop depending on their settings.


Any cell phone uses energy continuously, as long as it isn’t powered off. This means that if it is not connected to power for 8 hours the battery level will be lower at the end of that time. How much lower depends on what apps you have, how many notifications you have enabled (which will be delivered and processed by apps even if you force close apps-they will relaunch when a notification arrives), and, probably most important, how strong your cellular signal from the network is; your phone maintains a "conversation" with the network so your phone can be found when a call or text arrives, and low signal strength requires much more energy to do this update to the network. Thus, you should be charging your phone overnight so this nighttime usage is powered by the external source rather than the battery.

In any case, if you are not happy you should return the phone and make sure you do not exceed the 14 days.

You should be charging it all night, every night and use the Optimized Charging option. It is that regular charging pattern where you will see your phone learn to charge your battery to 100% just before you take it off the charger. That is also going to reduce your Charge Cycles since the normal maintenance routines performed overnight will be using line power instead of battery power. You will be starting each day with a 100% charge and can concentrate on using your phone like it was intended.

We’re just users like you. And some of us have been using iOS 26 with no problems at all. What I’m getting at is this is a problem with YOUR iPhone, not something that Apple can fix by waving a magic wand.

When I kept 40 before sleep and in morning it will in 20 percent. I’m very disappointed “


Relatively normal. Charge it while you sleep, all night, every night. As recommended by Apple and everyone here.


Now if it lost 20% while powered off that’s a different problem - self draining battery.

I use the 17 and honestly, I am very disappointed with the battery life. I can hardly get five hours of screen on time before I need to charge. I also noticed standby battery draining, It’s not the best especially having used the 13 and 15 base models . I think it’s an issue with all versions, probably an update might just fix it .

Also, I have been using the phone since its launch date so this isn’t about me just transferring from an old device. It’s been almost 3 weeks and there’s been no sign of improvement.
