iPhone 17 battery drains quickly with normal use

Software developers are under no obligation to optimize their software for efficiency. Consumers don’t download and use the apps because of the efficiency. The apps users are motivated by the social features they offer.

Meta, parent company of instagram, Facebook, Threads, Messenger etc. increases their stock prices by constantly announcing layoffs for the next fiscal quarter/year. However, it does little for their customer's user experience, AKA iPhone or Google battery usage.

Google Meta layoffs and see how many employees have been basically eliminated. They aren’t rehiring. So, what’s exactly fair about that?

Hi! also a new (purchased Nov 9) iPhone 17 Pro Max user. may i ask why limiting charging to 80% is damaging? because a month after my purchase, my iPhone gave a notification saying to preserve battery life it is recommended to limit my charging to 80%.

before i used to charge until 100% every morning and overnight i either lose 2% or 9% (this fluctuates, usually i lost 8-9% overnight after i change some settings and i do a restart every time). so now i limit my charge to 80% according to what my phone recommended me. can you tell me is this normal or not? thanks!

Thanks for the good article! then using 80% charge limit is fine and not damaging to the battery? because LD150 said setting it to 80% charge limit will have the same effect but “2 years earlier” which i assume does some damage or lower battery health expectancy.

I just got a new iPhone 17 and am seeing absolutely alarming battery drain on it. I had it fully charged probably less than 2 hours ago, unplugged it and it's already down to 70% with only mild usage. I looked at the Battery screen and it only refers to two games I've played in the past day. It isn't saying the home screen or anything like that is using the battery. I regularly played these same games on my old iPhone 12 and don't think I ever saw the battery drop so fast. It certainly dropped faster in recent months than it did when the 12 was new, but that's why I got a new phone, hoping to get back to factory fresh performance that doesn't require me to charge the phone multiple times per day. I never had a new iPhone drain the battery this fast on day one or on year one for that matter. This is a battery performance typical of when I've had a new iPhone for three or more years.

No, but I never experienced that with a new iPhone before. My last one was iPhone 12. And I saw in your earlier post about that, where you said the Battery Usage screen would refer to something generic to account for the Battery Usage, but it does not refer to anything but the apps I am using. Also, the phone has no lag, it runs great, and it's not hot at all. The battery is just draining at least as fast as the iPhone 12 I am trading in because I was so unhappy with its short battery life.

Comparing this iPhone to my last iPhone as far as battery, my 16 plus puts this one to shame. I never once had to worry about even bring a charger with me it would last all day even playing games and using lots of apps, this phone can’t even handle half that before it’s almost dead. I even deleted apps before installing the backup so that definitely is not the problem. It’s weak, that’s the problem.

False I had a base model iPhone 13 and it stayed alive longer than the base model iphone 17 it’s so sad these newer phones drain battery so fast it’s horrible even XR has a better battery life than these newer phones

I have had this phone for a

month and this has not resolved even Apple agent said too quick but when I went to get resolved in store to Best Buy (closer than Apple Store) I was told I would have to pay for a replacement or to take it back to carrier. I am done with iPhones.

I just got a 17 pro, and sometimes the battery life is insanely good; but other times, especially using the camera, the battery drains very fast. And I checked my battery health and it’s at 100%

Same issue. I’m using my camera for class to take pictures of slides. Battery drained from 77% to 50% in 1.5 hours and 20 pictures sitting in class taking pictures of slide show.

The standby battery drain is huge… almost drained 7-8% at night … i haven’t inserted the sim then how it is happening

Just sitting can watch the battery percent go down, did not happen with 16 pro max.

Same issue battery goes from 100 to 0 at the speed of light for their latest phone thats a problem.

OK, so what is the REAL battery rate of discharge?

If you charge overnight, every night, and you don’t need to recharge during the day the iPhone is working as designed.
