AirPods Pro2 personalized volume doesn’t work well anymore?

I use to LOVE the personalized volume function on my AirPods but all of a sudden it seems to have a lag, the volume goes straight to WAY too loud, and doesn’t turn itself back down properly when the outside noise stops. I find this especially irritating if I’m listening to something in bed and I move the covers even slightly. The volume shoots up, giving me a massive fright, and stays loud! I then have to move from my cosy sleepy position to manually turn them down, either on my phone or by several swipes of the stems (which usually takes much longer I’d like with something blaring in my ear). Then of course during the process of moving back to my sleeping position the bedding rustles slightly and the volume shoots back up again!

In the past instead of having a lag the volume seemed to go up incrementally, so that if the noise it was responding to stopped quickly the volume hadn’t gone up much, and went back down almost immediately. If the noise continued the AirPods used to increase to the perfect volume to maintain an approximately similar listening level over the noise as it had been over silence.

Lately I’ve found myself often having to yank the pods out of my ears because the volume has gone so high I can’t turn it down fast enough!

What gives?

Is this a buggy update, or is there some setting that may have changed itself (alongside the other settings that revert themselves frequently).
