Why is ‘Home & Lock Screen Updated Wallpaper Frequently’ Draining So Much Battery on My iPhone 17 Pro Max?

Widgets on the Lock Screen and Home Screens are a major culprit for extended background activity. As noted by LD150 weather and astronomy screens, banking, sports, financial apps are frequent causes for excessive battery drain.

Try deleting widgets and associated apps and download new copies.

I see nothing to be concerned about in your Battery settings, in fact you are seeing excellent performance. The last time you charged your battery was 3 days ago and you are still sitting at 65%. The entire day, you have only used 20% of your battery and the Home & Lock Screen accounted for 8% out of the amount of battery used. So in reality, the Home & Lock Screen used 1.6% of your entire battery yesterday, which would not concern me since it is visible every time the phone is unlocked or wakes up from a Notification.

Yeah this is not normal, I have a 17 Pro Max as well and I had a 16 Pro Max before it.

While the phone was doing literally nothing for 8 hours (I was sleeping), always on display disabled. The Home Screen and Lock Screen used 4% of my battery. This never happened on my 16 Pro Max before IOS 26.

I also get this warning "Home & Lock Screen Updated Wallpaper Frequently"

Hopefully apple notices this and fix it in future updates.

I think you’ve got your math wrong. When iI use 50% of my battery and Safari has used 25%, it’s not 25% of 50%, it’s 25% of 100%.

When I add up each individual app’s percentage, it equals the total battery percentage used.
