iPad freezes during Sonar Health app removal in iPadOS 26

I was trying to remove and reinstall the sonar health app. The app had an open window hidden from view. After I answered "maintain subscription" the iPad froze. The restart commands do not work. Plugging into MacOs got thru "trust" and then timed out. I could swipe between screens but nothing else.

It was running pretty hot and has now exhausted the battery after about 2 hrs. On restart everything seems to be working.

Would you consider this a bug in the new OS?

Without performing detailed analysis of your iPad's saved analytics data - this requiring specialist software tools that are typically unavailable to most users - it is impossible for contributors here to provide a definitive explanation for what or why your iPad froze. It is inevitable that with release of a completely new version of iOS/iPadOS you will encounter some unexpected issues and bugs.

For future reference, if your iPad is unresponsive, perform a forced restart of your iPad. A forced restart will re-initialise all running processes without risk of corruption to the journaling file-system. By contrast a simple shutdown/restart will not clear a faulting process, but will instead [undesirably] preserve the non-running or faulting state.

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

When performed correctly, your iPad will restart.
