Requesting a refund for an accidental yearly Duolingo subscription

I intended to buy the monthly subscription, but I accidentally bought the yearly subscription, I cancelled my subscription and submitted a refund request within 10-20 min of being charged. How likely am I to receive a full refund and how soon will I receive an update?

Nobody here works for Apple so we cannot answer your first question. Apple's terms are all sales are final. They might grant an occasional refund but it is not something you can anticipate.

About your second question, this support article explains how to check the status of a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple, and how long it takes to receive a refund if you are granted one --> Check the status of a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

After you request a refund you'll receive a status update by email within 48 hours. If your refund is approved, the funds are applied to the same payment method that you used to buy the item. How long it takes for a refund to appear on your account or statement depends upon the payment method used:

● Store credit—It might take up to 48 hours to see the refund in your Apple Account balance.

● Mobile phone billing—It might take up to 60 days for the statement to show the refund. Processing time might be affected by your carrier. You can contact your carrier for an update.

● Credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Apple Cash, and all other payment methods—It might take up to 30 days for the statement to show the refund. If you don't see the refund after 30 days, contact your financial institution."

Since the article specifically says "statement", which for me is the thing that arrives monthly in my mailbox, I wonder if you check your daily card transactions if you might see it earlier?

For apps and media you can also sign into https://reportaproblem.apple.com to check if the status of your item is "Refunded".

According to https://reportaproblem.apple.com/static/en-us/privacy.html , Apple uses an automated system to detect fraud. Your request may not have met the automated system’s criteria for a refund. If you feel you want to discuss a refund request with a person, try to contact an Apple representative by email —> “If you disagree with your final decision, contact dpo@apple.com “

If you need to otherwise contact Apple about this, click on this link --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support and choose a path that gets assistance from Apple staff.

Also note that when you choose a free trial, you may not have the option to change the length of the subscription offered. The developer of an app chooses which subscription option, if any, you have to choose from if you accept their free trial. The other option is to choose a subscription that you pay for immediately that does not have a free trial.

Did you choose a free trial and forget to cancel a day before to avoid the subscription charge, like what is stated in the Authorization Screen that required you to double click the side button?
