Since MacOS Tahoe, I keep seeing only the option to enter my password when waking up my MBP after screensaver activates. It is not every time, but it certainly is not only after restarts, or when I'm doing things that require high level admin authentication. Has anyone else seen this?

Others have reported Touch ID issues with Intel Macs on Tahoe. Some have reported that deleting the fingerprint(s) then re-adding them solved it.
Reinstalling fingerprints worked so far, will report back if more drastic action is needed. Because the TouchID works every time I see the option for it when unlocking or waking, I think it is not the touchID pad itself....but I'll report back if the problem recurs after redoing fingerprints.
Edit: Ooooh, I think I just got it by resetting the SMC again. I'd tried that initially but it didn't change anything, but this time I think it's working. Touch ID immediately available on wake.

Mine does this, and it's remarkably consistent in the timing - 13 seconds after the device wakes, Touch ID shows up. I've re-added fingerprints, cycled Touch ID, etc., but nothing has worked. Still have to wait 13 seconds every time.

This is what I'm seeing, and reinstalling fingerprints (as above) and updating to OS 26.0.1 did nothing.
Is this annoying delay meant to be a feature and not a bug?
I've been experiencing this problem too, since installing the incremental updates to Sequoia MacOS 15 issued over the past couple of weeks.

I think you've got it here--after redoing fingerprints, this is the behavior I am seeing again. WEIRD.
Edit again: Nope, that didn't stick. Still 13 or 14 seconds to get Touch ID. I would echo OP's question, is this supposed to be how it works?
