How to select and delete multiple contacts on iPhone, iPad, and Mac?

hello,

i am cleaning up my contacts list for the first time in years, its quote a chore to do it individually, i have an ipad, iphone, mac safari browser icloud website, no where can i find a way to highlight and pick the contacts that are no longer needed to be on my phone, the only option i have managed to find was to highlight ALL. i dont want all of them deleted. my only assumption is that the ability to pick multiple contacts it does not exist, and im just going to get no real answers as a result, but, if there is a way to do it, kindly share that knowledge, and maybe present it in a manner that can help others as well, instead of burying this specific query as already being answered somewhere else, which is not, ive looked, and if there is an answer, kindly provide a link in this specific query.

regards,

oscar.

thank you for your reply, just want to add an update to this inquiry i made, just happened to have an awesome phone rep at apple help me, thanks cody, in an unrelated subject, i asked this question about how to pick and highlight multiple contacts to delete, his response, which worked, was to sign in to my icloud account from my mac using the safari browser, you can then click on the contacts button which will take you to your list of contacts, which is synced throughout all my apple device, and tied to my icloud account specifically, at this point hold down the command key on keyboard, you can then individually highlight the contacts and presented with deletion. this is my solution, thanks apple to your response, and i hope it is something that can be updated on ios to make this a more apple like simplistic approach, instead of this hack work around.

oscar.

Re: "ios contacts list,

Sorry am no expert in this area, and can not provide a sure-fire way to do what you aim to do.

We are all Apple users, like yourself, in the community, and Apple does not always explain what it does, and why it does things the way it does. Apple Support provides much info. and "How to's"

Each Contacts app is likely as unique as the person who manages it.

Some of us have 50 contacts, some have thousands, and blocked contacts as well..

Contacts are collected in various ways:

eg: from linked email accounts, added from emails received, or from group email lists etc. , yet each contact may end up as an individual card for ease of use.

The sure-fire way to delete a contact directly in the contacts app itself on iPad comes from this article: Add and use contact information on iPad - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Delete a contact

  1. Go to the Contacts app  on your iPad.
  2. Go to the contact’s card, then tap Edit.
  3. Scroll down, then tap Delete Contact."

Other than that, I imagine those with large and difficult to manage Contacts find ways:

One possibility to manage Contacts en masse, if you have the skill and confidence

: You can export the cards, individually or collectively, delete some contact cards, and

then import contacts from a vCard or from a directory.

See how to: Export contacts on iPad - Apple Support

or

Import contacts on iPad - Apple Support.

You can delete email accounts (eg: Yahoo, GMail etc.), which likely removes the associated contacts en masse, and, after editing the contacts by logging in to the email provider's website. you can add accounts back with the refined contacts.

Eg: For iPad: Add or remove accounts

IF you haven't already: You can sync your contacts across devices, if you wish.

All the best :-)
