Battery Drain on iOS 26 and iOS 26.0.1.

Good morning everyone,

I would like to report a VERY SERIOUS problem with the battery and performance.

I have a NEW iPhone 15 with 100% battery capacity and only 22 cycles (which I did myself; when it arrived, it was at 0).

However, after updating to iOS 26 (and even with iOS 26.0.1, the situation remains the same), I continue to have VERY SERIOUS problems with the battery life of my NEW phone.

Today, I was busy all day and did not use my phone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., yet it still dropped from 90% to 45% WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. No apps were open, the “Refresh apps in background” option was not enabled, the screen was set to turn off automatically after 30 seconds, and automatic brightness was enabled. So it's definitely not the phone's fault because it's BRAND NEW with a 100% ORIGINAL battery, nor is it the settings because it was in PERMANENT POWER SAVING mode. So the fault lies solely with iOS. There are no excuses.

I am writing this message to urge Apple to resolve this issue as soon as possible because, from what I have read on X, I am not the only one.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you very much and have a good day.

Had the same issue on my iphone 16 after upgrading to 26.0.1.

i did these things and battery life seems to be normal. Following are the things i did.

  1. update all the apps manually and do a hard reset by pressing volume up, release, volume down, release & finally hold power button until you see the apple logo. This will force your iphone to restart.
  2. turn on reduce motion from setting. This will disable lockscreen 3d image feature. But maybe this helped to reduce my battery draining. (accessibility—> motion)
  3. turn on the prefer cross-fade transitions(accessibility—> motion). This will disable modern transitions and new glass effect.

somehow these things prevented my rapid battery draining issue.

also please note that for first 2-3 days there are some background processes running to indexing after the update. So maybe that will also take a huge battery power for that process better to give 2-3 days and then try these methods. All or one will help you.

This is called obsoletion.

the iOS is optimize for the phone they want you to buy not the phone you have.

No matter how many things they’ll give you the option to turn off, the drainage will still be credited to all the new features causing the drain regardless if you turn off the features and never use them.

this message will self destruct in as many moments it takes someone else to censor it.

Yes I have the Same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro.

use to go all day with out needing a charge now I have to keep it on the charger most of the day. I should just go back to a land line if I need to be tied to a wall outlet all day.

They should have to replace our batteries. My gets way to hot after the apdate. Never had that before. My phone is only 6 months old. had 100% battery health now 98% 4 days later. Crazy. Its just sitting on the desk and its still hot for some reason.

Hi Jeff i see you here defending apple and blaming other apps. Here is mine for example from today. I have this since 26.0.1. Multiple restarts, adaptive mode on-off etc. Spotify running in the background 12%? It is a joke but let’s say it is not an apple app, fine. Home screen/lockscreen 5m 5%? Really? Messages 5m 3%? How is this not a clear ios issue? How didnt we have this drain on ios18?

I surely hope so! My little iPhone 13 mini is draining like there's a hole in it (85% battery health, low power mode does not seem to help, I only have 3 widgets on the lock screen - Clock/Weather/Calendar, and removing them did not seem to make a difference). I don't want a bigger phone. I like the smaller phone. It fits in my pocket. My desktop Apple mouse is also draining rapidly, and I have to change the AA batteries much more frequently. I try to remember to turn off the mouse when I am not using the desktop (mini m4), but I often forget to turn it off. It is an older Magic Mouse. There is much to like about iOS 26.01 (and Tahoe 26.01), but the battery drain is a real and ongoing problem.

I previously posted my iPhone 13 went from 47% to 10% instantly (and even 100% to 10% instantly) and kept restarting. It got to the point I had to keep my phone constantly on the charger, until I saw the screen was swelling open. I didn’t remember it doing that at all before the new iOS, but clearly it had become a hardware issue now. Fortunately I was able to get a new iPhone 17 from AT&T the next day (and I was due a free upgrade).

iOS 26 is so far working great on a NEW IPHONE 17, and it is very smooth. So far the battery is doing well on the new phone (but I don’t have anything to compare it to). With light use I charge it every other day, and moderate use every day.

So it looks like this iOS works alright for NEW phones, but was either not designed with old phones in mind, or (hopefully not) intended to tank old phones.
