How to turn phone ringer on/off iPhone 16e iOS 26.0

I've been through. all the avalanche of information about 'fun stuff' (not) to do with the Action Button but all I want is a way to EASILY turn the phone ringer off when necessarily and back on quickly without fumbling with settings and multiple buttons each time, like you could with the side switch on all my older phones. Apparently this can now be done with the "Action Button".

Instructions online are to go to Settings, and then Action Button, and select Silent Mode.

There is no "Silent Mode". Here is what I have:

Settings--> Action Button--> and then it gives me these options: Focus-> Flashlight->Translate-> Magnifier-> Controls-> No Action

Is there any way to get the "Action Button" to behave in a very simple way, like the older switch you could just flip for ringer off and ringer on? One push of one button for ringer off, one push for ringer on? How would I do that using one of the settings that I have (there is no "Silent Mode" setting, just Focus-> Flashlight->Translate-> Magnifier-> Controls-> No Action.)

It should show Silent Mode also; however, when I go to Settings/Action Button. I see:

  • Silent Mode
  • Focus
  • Camera
  • Visual Intelligence
  • Flashlight
  • Voice Memo
  • Recognize Music
  • Translate
  • Magnifier
  • Controls
  • Shortcut
  • Accessibility
  • No Action

You can also turn Silent Mode on and off by opening the Control Center by dragging down from the Battery icon and tapping on the bell icon.
