Hi, I just got this message when waking up: ”your password is required to unlock iPhone”.
It was not the usual: ”your password is required to enable Face ID”
This happed once in August as well.
When I try to google the phrase I get results from 6-7 years ago.
All results after that is with the new phrase about enabling Face ID.
Does anyone else get this prompt?

Do you have the original battery which came with your phone? If you do, I'd guess the phone restarted and the battery may be failing. Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health and if it is at 80% or lower, the battery is failing in your phone and needs to be replaced at your Apple Store Genius Bar.

It is possible your phone restarted in the interim, maybe overnight. I have seen a few reports of this, SIM card users often have to enter their SIM PIN
No idea what is causing it, it is usually bad battery, but may be an iOS glitch.
It’s not saying ”your password is required after restarting iPhone”
So I’m guessing it’s not rebooting.
I also don’t have to enter my SIM card PIN.
Battery is at 89% health. 2 year old iPhone 12.
