Missing trade-in kit for online iPhone purchase

Typically for an online order that you receive at home, the trade-in kit arrives within a week of receiving the new iPhone. This allows you to have both iPhones at the same time so that you can do a direct data transfer using Quick Start.

I suppose (but I can't confirm) that Apple uses the same strategy for pick orders, i.e. the trade-in kit will be sent within a week of your picking up your new iPhone. I believe this is what the message "pending trade-in kit shipment" means.

How long does the online trade-in process take?

Generally it takes 2 to 3 weeks. Your trade-in device needs to be sent to us within 14 days of when you receive your new device. The sooner we receive your trade-in, the sooner we can verify its condition and process your credit or gift card. It may take 3 to 5 business days for your credit to be processed.

If you do not receive the trade-in kit within a week, please contact Apple Support directly to notify them.

This year, at least in the US, Apple included the trade in box with the phone when it was delivered. I'm curious if you did in store pickup, why wouldn't you just do the trade at your Apple Store directly? There's no requirement to send the phone in. And doing the trade at your Apple Store ensures you get the credit on the spot.
