How do you download your contacts?

Depends. Download them from where? To what? Please provide a little more detail as to what you are trying to accomplish

You can open the Contacts app on your iPhone > Tap the Arrow in the top left corner > Hold on a List or All Contacts > Tap Export > From there you can choose an export method such as Mail.
