some contacts didn't transfer new iphone 17

I switched over my phone from a 14 pro to a 17 pro. Everything seemed to work ok - I am logged in to the correct apple ID/iCloud account on both. I have tried various online tips to fix, but having no luck.

The issue::

MOST of my contacts switched over to the new phone, but some did not.

*important to note* when I compose a brand new message, and type in a name - it comes up there as a contact. But when that person sends me a text, it is just their phone# and not as a contact.

For example, I type 'diana' into a NEW text - she's there as a contact. But 'diana' is not there on the list of contacts, and also appears as just a phone number when she texts me.

Appreciate any help!! It's driving me crazy.

It sounds like you may have more than one source for your contacts. If you open the Contacts app, in the upper left corner you should see a little left pointing arrow head. Tap on that and should take you to a page caled Lists, and it will show the contacts that you have selected. Is it possible that you have another email account or iCloud that you have contacts in? If so, make sure those are turned on as well to make sure you are looking at All Contacts, not just a single group.

This is why I shouldn't do this at work. I got delayed and seem to have duplicated what LD150 says.

Siri and internal memory can suggest a number for a missing contact, so I assume the Diana contact is not in Contacts app?

On the OLD phone, in Contacts swipe tap < arrow to see totals. Is All icloud equal to total contacts? If no then some contacts are in another cloud or on the phone only.
