How to block numbers on iPhone after iOS 26 update?

Before IOS 26 update, if I received a call from an unknown number that was definitely spam, I could select the "i" next to the number, go to the bottom of the screen and select "block caller".

Now, after IOS 26 update, that option is gone on my phone. Using the classic view, the "i" is still there, but I have to go to "Settings", "Apps", "Phone", "Blocked Contacts", "Add Blocked Contact", enter the phone number, then tap "Block Contact".

Why did Apple make it harder to block unknown callers???

I was so frustrated by this also but I just found the solution!!!

In your Recent Calls, simply swipe to the left on the number that you want to block. There will be 3 icons - an orange hand, a blue clock, and a red trash can. The orange hand will allow you to block the number directly from your recent call log without needing to save as a contact. Quick and easy, sorry for doubting you, Apple!

Really basic question: Why are you blocking spam calls? That spammer’s number will never call you again. Spammers intentionally use a different fake number for each call, expressly to make spam call blocking useless.

Call blocking is only useful to block someone you know from calling you.

He's spot on.

And you're wrong.

Not in this case.

I get repeat calls from the same number - I don't know them and they're unsolicited marketing calls.
There's a word for such calls.
Spam!

You don't know that the calls are from the same number, only that they appear to be from the same number. That's a huge difference.

Please, not just for my edification but for the edification of all interested parties, point us all to the "solution" posted on this thread and not the work around. The solution would be the steps to stop the aforementioned options from not rending immediately when you select the i next to a phone number on the recent calls list. The workaround most stated, which is not the solution, is having to open and close the phone app repeatedly after selecting the i. To be clear, my question is what are the steps to access the options of block contact, share contact, add to favorites, etc., immediately upon selecting the i (information) icon?

It may well work like that on your iPhone, but it does not on my wife’s SE 2000.

As georgevargas noted below, the issue is that a simple screen option to block a caller is no longer available; toggling back and forwards between the home screen and the phone number that you wish to block is not progress in the 21st century. It worked before, so why introduce a complicated routine to do something that was simple?

Like so many things in IT, people just like to tinker and do not complete a full test of all changes.

When Apple provides all iPhone users with free hardware upgrades then changes to programming will be as the programmers intended - until that day just test changes before they are released, it isn’t too difficult.
