Turn off iphone camera automatically

Just want to share a tip with everyone who would like to turn off iphone camera automatically. The Camera app, once opened, keeps the phone screen on, even when the screen lock timer has passed. This drains battery. I figured out a way to return the phone to locked screen (which then turns itself off) after Camera is opened after a set time.

The below automation setting would

1. wait for 30 sec and lock screen if camera was launched while iphone unlocked

2. do nothing (i.e., does not lock screen) if camera was latched while phone locked — good for handing over to others to take pictures

Here are the steps.

Open "Shortcut" app
-> click "+" to add a new automation
-> select "App" action
-> choose "When Camera is Opened"
-> select Run immediately (can be changed later)
-> Next
-> Create New Shortcut
-> select Wait
-> set 30 seconds (don't click the check-mark yet)
-> click Search actions … "Lock Screen"
-> select it -> Click check-mark
