Rolling and steady dots on iPad screen

My iPad screen suddenly showed dots. First, they were rolling dots, rolling down from top to bottom of my screen. Then, they became steady dots along the side of the screen equidistant left and right - black on light screen, white dots on dark screen/background. Has this been reported? How can it be fixed?
