Battery health based on Analytics report

Its been just a week of getting my iPhone 17 pro max. I just checked the battery health. It shows 100%, but when i run the analytics report to check the battery health, it says the effective battery health percent is 98.19%. I have enabled adaptive power mode and set charging capacity to 85%.

Even after being so vigilant, why is there such an issue. Why

Because you downloaded a third party shortcut that attempts to display results from analytics data and is consistently wrong. Is suspect this is the one from Payette Forward, but there are many links to the same shortcut. Not unusual for users to not understand any of the Analytics Data and the same is true for a shortcut that attempts to read the data. There really is only one purpose for the Analytics and that is when you open a support ticket with Apple for an issue and it reaches to the level where an Engineer may request a specific log. Other than that they are useless.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max comes with 2 battery sizes:

  • 4823 mAh @ 3.887 V (physical sim)
  • 5088 mAh @ 3.886 V (esim)

Notice that the information provided by your shortcut does not match either of those batteries for original capacity and don't take the voltage into consideration which is directly correlated to the mAh of the battery. Amps are determined by this formula: Amps = Volts (V) / Resistance (Ohms). Those numbers will vary and it is the Resistance that is increased and results in battery degradation where you will see less amperage.

The Battery Health shown in the Settings app uses an algorithm that looks at a number of charging, discharging and storage conditions to determine the health.

The data displayed in analytics just displays actual current state of the battery and doesn’t take into consideration the algorithm used in determining true battery health.

The shortcut merely finds the two measurements and just divides 4885 by 4975 to produce a battery health of 98.1%. Just simple math not an algorithm.

When batteries are manufactured most are over provisioned, mean have higher capacity than the minimum specification. Your battery should be 4823 per manufacturers specifications, but is over provisioned to 4885. Hence battery health still shows 100%. The straight math doesn’t take over provisioning into account, while the algorithm does.

no matter what you do then your batt health will go down, as soon as a recharable battery is made it begin to die, you can only delay the demise
