Apple account locked and inactive

Hello,

It's now 12 weeks that the Apple account of a friend of mine is locked on an Iphone 13.

The message is "This account is locked and cannot be used".

It appears that the account is also inactive.

There's no way to access to her Apple Account from apple.com though the password is known and valid.

This is really a frightening situation since there are 11,000+ photos in iCloud that I cannot transfer to a safe place such as an external Hard Disk.

It was possible to make a copy of 2,700+ photos stored in the internal memory of the iPhone.

However, when trying to save a bunch of photos via AirDrop to a MacBook, it says "The Apple Account must be checked - These elements could not be downloaded from Photos iCloud. Check your Apple Account in Settings" and after "Verification failed - An unknown error occured".

I read that iCloud backups are periodically created and are available within a 180 day-period.

That's great. But how can I take advantage of that and have access anew to the Apple Account?

Please help.

Thanks in advance

iPhone 13

First, her photos may not be in that backup. If she uses iCloud to sync something, they are not part of a backup. What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support

To get access to anything to do with that account you must have access to the account itself, which she does not. You should contact Apple about an inactive account. If you see an alert with a Request Access button, you might be able to request access to your account by tapping Request Access. If that does not work, this link —> https://getsupport.apple.com/?PGF=PGF63005&category_id=SC0245&symptom_id=23626 is the most direct way (versus Contact - Official Apple Support ) to get to the people helping you with this,

or by telephone at one of the numbers in this support article --> Contact Apple Support - Apple Support

Apple may be able to reactivate it, but if they cannot or will not then the account is gone, and everything that was in it. If you still have access to the device then you may be able to transfer items off it by connecting it to a computer. Airdrop uses the account for verification and that account is inactive. Get a USB cable and transfer items. This support article outlines the various ways you can back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch --> Backup methods for iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

iCloud is syncing storage and not a true backup service. Any photos I have on my iPhone I also very soon transfer a copy to my computer and then to multiple backup drives.

Hi Phil0124,
Thanks for your help and sorry for the delay answering back to your post.
My concern is that the Apple Account no longer exists and all related data cannot be accessed.

If its says its inactive, then still exists. Unless someone specifically asked for the account to be deleted, Apple does not just erase accounts unilaterally normally. If it was completely erased the error message would be different.

Up to now it seems that anything possible was already done.

And what exactly has been done?

However one can read in "Legal - iCloud Terms & Conditions - Apple" (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/icloud/us-en/terms.html) the followings:
O. Backup
iCloud Backup periodically creates automatic backups for iOS devices, when the device is screen locked, connected to a power source, and connected to the Internet via a Wi-Fi network. If a device has not backed up to iCloud for a period of one hundred and eighty (180) days, Apple reserves the right to delete any backups associated with that device. Backup may include device settings, device characteristics, photos and videos, documents, your messages, ringtones, Health app data and other app data.
The question is how these backups can be made available to the user?

Only by accessing the account they are on, and restoring them onto a new device. iCloud backups are tied to and exist on the account. If the account does not exist anymore, then the backups don't either.

That is the only and last idea I have to solve this problem.

You need to try to recover access to the account as mentioned.

That will be the only way to access those backups.
