Safari problem after Tahoe 26.0.1 update

Ever since I did the update, Tahoe 26.0.1, my MacBook Air 2022 M2 Chip, Safari is not functioning. Web pages won't load, if they load they are incomplete. When I restart, it works for a while and then reverts to the problem. I run an antivirus and that states there is no virus. Anyone have an idea what this is and how to correct it?

I run an antivirus ...

Uninstall whatever it was you installed. Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk.

Follow its uninstallation instructions. Ensure its complete utter and irrevocable eradication from that Mac. Then and only then read If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on Mac - Apple Support.

Hello everyone,

If you’re experiencing issues with Safari not loading pages after updating to macOS 26.2, try this workaround:

Disconnect all connections from your iMac or laptops, including external monitors, external hard drives, and peripherals. Wait a few seconds, then reconnect everything. I would also recommend to restart the computer after.

This happened to me after updating my iMac M1 to macOS 26.2. Safari would not load any pages and would sometimes stay completely blank. I spent hours with Apple Support going through extensive troubleshooting steps, including reinstalling the software, but nothing helped.

Eventually, I tried disconnecting all external connections and reconnecting them, and WALA Safari started working normal again. Hopefully this saves someone else a lot of time in the near future.

I hope this helps.

Same issue with M3 processor!!! It's getting worse!!! Suggestions welcome!

Post your EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. There report contains no personal information and will show what is going on under the hood including the processes that are consuming your CPU cycles.

Post EtreCheck Report

There are certainly some apps that are more likely to cause performance issues and you can start by removing them to compare your results before posting the EtreCheck report:

  • Antivirus
  • VPN
  • CleanMyMac (or other cleaners)
  • Multiple syncing/backup services that are not working well together.

No wonder. There are no viruses that affect macOS. There have never been any viruses that affect macOS. There will never be any viruses that affect macOS. Repeat as often as required until it sinks in.

Hope this helps someone.

Ok today I went into System Settings, Pop-Up Windows, and noticed after trying to connect to a web page the Pop Up blocker was set to Block and Notify. I changed it to Allow, went back to the page I was attempting to access and tried again. Couldn't access. so I went back into settings and saw the site was "Blocks" again. Then I went to the bottom of that window and changed "When visiting other websites, to Allow" . Seems to be working once the default is set to Allow. Hope they can fix this issue soon. I really prefer to "Block/Allow" on my own.

Hello John, I run a virus software and it has actually captured viruses on my imac.

It tells you that it has found viruses because that is what they want you to believe so you continue to use their service. A false positive is actually what you have found.

You can willfully install malicious software known as Malware, but that is not a virus that can live in your System files and spread to other devices. Some examples of software that can be installed and cause problems on your computer are CleanMyMac, Antivirus, Optimizers, and even some VPN's that will interfere with network access.

This site has been on/off for the last 2 days with various messages coming up when attempting to access/post. The same happens on Sequoia when testing with another Mac, so it is not specific to MacOS 26.4. Sometimes just reloading the page in Safari will show the page display correctly, so it has been quite sporadic.

For tips beyond when maintenance is being performed on the site, it has helped in the past is to delete the apple.com cookie in Safari when it is due to a partial page load or missing icons and if you are using a VPN, try removing it.

Oh ya, same issues with the Safari. Chrome seems to work best but then you loose seamless password integration. I have looked hard at going back to Mac os 15 but from what I have read os 26 music library is not backwards compatible and with 2100+ albums at this time I don't want to have to reload the cd's of something goes pair shaped. Also have had iOS 26.3 issues that are new after the update from 26.2-26.3.

My problem is that after installing Tahoe on my laptop, Safari won't let me input a URL when I open a new window, or select and copy URLs in tabs I have open. If I click in the tab address of one I have opened, it gives me a drop down with the full address, but it won't let me select it in either the address bar or the drop down.

If I create a new tab (that isn't home page, Google) it just says untitled and does nothing if I click on it. If I open

I have not added any anti-virus software and I have quit and reopened Safari and restarted my laptop twice.

Attached are screenshots of untitled windows and URL drop down menus, and the Settings I have selected.
