what's that funny image at lower left of a message identifier icon?

When I get text messages, very occasionally the user icon has a funny image at lower right. In this case, it's a people image, sometimes it's different. What does this icon addition mean?

Ah, I get it. It means there were TWO people attached to that message, including myself. The large image (the PH in the image I posted above) is the person who sent the message. The smaller image is the profile picture of the second person the text is addressed to. When that second person doesn't share their contact card, you just see the default person icon.

Thats the person's profile picture.

An image shows up when that person shares their Contact Card with you with that image set.

The default person icon will show when they choose not to share their Contact Card.

The initials will show if you have a Contact Card saved of them with no image set or they share their Contact Card with no image.
