Unclear refund policy for accidental Dashlane subscription via Apple

Hi seeking help from community.

i have accidentally subscribed to dashlane and followed the steps for a refund.

Right after my subscription i cancelled immediately and asked for a refund..

dashalne’s policy is….i would be able to get a refund within 30 days From purchase and i had raised to Apple in regard to the policy.

HOWEVER while i called in Apple support, Apple told me the money is with them, so unable to return the money to me.

while contacting Dashlane, they pushed the onus to refund back to Apple.

Sorry, but that is only if you purchase directly from them on their website. For an App Store purchase, it does tell you on their website that your option is to just ask Apple for a refund. As you have found at, it is Apple's policy that all transactions are final. Apple may provide a compassionate refund, but there is surely no policy that will guarantee you will get a refund.

There is nothing stopping Dashlane from sending you a check for any refund if they wish. You should certainly take up that misrepresentation with Dashlane and force them to honor any commitments they have made with you. On their websites, they have made it clear that the App Store is not responsible for claims of the website.

  • The relevant App Store is not a party to these Terms, and Dashlane, not the App Store, is solely responsible for the Services and any related claims

You can report the Dashlane app as being fraudulent by going to reportaproblem.apple.com, and that is one of the options to report the app. With enough negative reports and for any violation of the App Submission Guidelines, it can be removed from the App Store.

Here is the policy for App Store purchases:

  • All Transactions are final.

Legal - Apple Media Services - Apple

At times, Apple may provide a compassionate refund, but it should NEVER be expected. All purchases/free trials require a deliberate action on your part to approve on the Authorization Screen by double clicking the side button, followed by verification with Face ID/Touch ID or Passcode. That is not something that can be done by accident.

For a free trial, there is a message on that Authorization Screen that says to cancel the trial at least a day before the subscription start date to avoid a charge. That would be what you had agreed to by double clicking the side button. You are responsible for your actions. It is always a good idea to take ownership of your actions. You never learn anything when blaming others.

Also, i have hard evidence on email, from dashlane support that i WILL be able to get a refund from apple. I can send you the screenshots if you want

Sounds like you have a strong case against Dashlane. Apple is not involved at all with any claims that Dashlane makes to you. Once company cannot set the refund policy of another company, but Dashlane can send you the money they received from your subscription.

To be more specific, the items posted on the website alr constitutes the refund policy.

It is stated that refunds will be made within 30 days. Website did not state that refunds will only be made while purchasing with dashlane directly.

ITS clearly stated on Dashlane that purchases made on Apple could be refunded.

If what you are suggesting is the case, Apple shld get dashlane to remove the clause on refunding while making a purchase with the app store, and be clear with the refund terms

this is definitely a form of misrepresentation because on the top of the page of dashlane, it is represented that refunds could be made regardless of the type of payment methods.
