Find My no longer works without iCloud after iOS 26.0.1 update on iPhone

iCloud is required for "Find My," which, in my mind, does not make sense since the tracking is via the Internet.

Also, my problem with iCloud is the automatic sending of files from my iPhone to iCloud, when I already have adequate backup facilities that I use locally and don't do a lot of sharing or accessing things from remote devices.

I made the upgrade to the new iOS 26.0.1, and boom, iCloud is all open and active again, plus things have changed not for the good, as 'Find My" no longer works as I turned off iCloud. I guess something may have been on in iCloud, and I didn't know it, as "Find My" had been working.

Is there some option I might be missing to get it to work without iCloud?

I have it turned off iCloud on my MacBook Pro 16 as well, when I upgraded to the new macOS Tahoe, which has slowed down my laptop and has been giving problems as things freeze or move my mouse automatically without me. Anyway, I won't mention all the other irritants.
