New iphone setup, software update interrupted,stuck on Hello screen

We obtained an erased iPhone 15 Pro from our daughter. I tried to use Quick Start to transfer data from my wife's iPhone 13 Pro. All was going well until it needed a software update. It went through this process, but stopped when a network connection was required. After about 30 minutes, I switched off and on. However, it will now not go past the Hello screen - the passcode page flashes up, then disappears, also the switch off page does the same. I let the battery run down, switched it on, no change. I attached it to my Windows PC Apple app via a cable, but it did not connect to the device. Have I irretrievably corrupted the software?

Have you done a forced restart? Read the instructions on the Apple Support article I linked below. The key after the screen goes black, hold the power button until you see the white Apple logo. It could be 30 seconds or even longer.

I did a number of forced restarts, but was only successful when I held the power button for an eternity! It then went into Recovery Mode, and I was able to successfully update the software. Thanks. (I had a problem whilst verifying the update - I eventually had to connect my PC to my router with a network cable to do this).

You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.
