After weeks of hesitating, I just installed iPadOS 26.0.1 on my iPad Air 13-inch (M2) and am experiencing multiple issues.
One issue is that multiple empty emails are sitting on my desktop when I navigate between open apps. I will include a screen capture.
I would appreciate any ideas to fix this.

Your screenshot shows the Mail exposé view - this showing all of the currently open Mail App windows.
From this view, simply swipe each of the unwanted windows off the top of the screen.
If the iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:
Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)
If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:
Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)
Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
Swiping does not work. They seem to disappear and then repopulate so it is an endless loop of swiping.
