Urgent: iPhone Unavailable — Recover data without erasing

Hello — my iPhone shows “iPhone Unavailable” after I entered the passcode incorrectly several times. This device contains important data I need to keep. I am the device owner and can provide proof of ownership (Apple ID, serial/IMEI, proof of purchase, ID). Is there any way Apple can unlock the device without erasing the data? Please escalate to a senior advisor if necessary. Thank you.

This is a user-to-user forum. You are not speaking to Apple, and none of your fellow users are going to "escalate [things] to a senior advisor." Not that it would do you any good if they could.

Is the phone

  • Telling you that you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can try to enter a passcode? If so, wait. Then try again. The delays will keep getting longer with each incorrect guess, and I believe that if you see a timeout of 8 hours, that would mean that you only have one more chance to get the passcode right.
  • Offering a "Forgot Passcode" option? (Only available if you changed the passcode within the last 72 hours.)

If not, there is no way back in without erasing your data. Anything that existed only on the phone is as good as gone – whether the phone wiped it immediately on entry of the tenth incorrect passcode, or merely went into a disabled mode where the only way to get back in is to reset and wipe it.

If things have reached this point, any data that exists only on the phone is gone. Even Apple can't retrieve it for you. You can only get the data back if it exists somewhere else (in backups, synchronized to iCloud, etc.)

You can call Apple Support – but they will not be able to bypass the passcode lock without erasing your data.

From a different Support document (How to request access to a deceased family member’s Apple Account - Apple Support): "Please note that devices locked with a passcode are protected by passcode encryption, and Apple can’t help remove the passcode lock without erasing the device."

I already said you cannot get what you want. They only unlock and WIPE it.

Backup and iCloud sync are on by default. At some point you consciously turned them off.

Hi, this is not Apple Support. Apple and Apple Support do not participate here. Everyone posting and commenting are fellow Apple users, just like you.

Apple can NOT unlock it. Once it is unavailable, it's done. Any data on the device is unrecoverable. There is no way around that. Apple does not have any magic that can read the encrypted data on the device.

Also, Apple does not do business in Iran. No support is available in Iran. It is a violation of international sanctions to sell or give an iPhone to anyone who intends to take it to Iran. You can't even legally have an Apple ID to log into these forums if you're in Iran.

Sorry.

In the future, you need to back up your data on a regular basis. That's true no matter what kind of device you have.
