iPhone text input freezes sporadically

Recently my phone has been freezing up sporadically when I try inputting text in any app I use. It will work fine for a couple of hours then, all of a sudden, every app I have will freeze up when I try to type in it. Whether I’m texting, searching in Safari, or typing anything, every single app freezes and I have to close them and shut down my phone and start it back up; only to hope it frees up and I can use it again.

Also, some incoming phone calls don’t ring, they just go to voicemail.

I have tried backing it up on iTunes but it fails after hours of waiting, and I can’t update the iOS because when I check Auto Update in settings, it just thinks and thinks and never gives me an option. iTunes doesn’t allow me to upgrade either.

I would appreciate any help I can get because I use this phone for work and need it working like it used to.
